If you have been hurt in a car accident, you know that you have a lot of questions that need to be answered. Your life is not the same as it was a few weeks ago and you need someone who can give you honest advice without trying to take advantage of your situation. If this is something that you are interested in learning more about, don’t hesitate to set up an appointment with a Car Accident Attorney in Florence KY.

Your attorney knows how to help you to get everything that you legally deserve from this accident. Unfortunately, he cannot help you until you give him the permission to go ahead and get started. Your attorney is going to need all of the details regarding this case. This way, he will have a better idea as to what needs to happen. Your attorney will contact the other driver and even their insurance company to find out how they are going to handle things. If they are not willing to do the right thing, your attorney may get started with putting together a court date.

Sometimes, the other driver is going to get with their insurance company to come up with a reasonable amount of money so that you will settle out of court. It will be up to you to decide if you would like to accept this money. Keep in mind, if you do accept it, you won’t be able to take them back to court if you have any further health problems. Usually, it is best to make sure that your car accident attorney in Florence KY is with you when you talk to the other driver. This way, you can get the advice of your attorney as to whether or not you are getting a good deal.

Work closely with your attorney and he will help you to collect as much is possible. He knows how much you are going to be able to collect and he won’t allow you to settle for anything less. Be patient and remember that this can sometimes be a lengthy process.

World’s largest package delivery service to cut 1,800 jobs
December 12, 2018

Saturday, January 9, 2010

United Parcel Service (UPS), the world’s largest package delivery service, has announced that it will cut 1,800 administrative and managerial jobs.

The firm, based in Atlanta, Georgia, is to reorganise its five regions into three, and slash the number of districts to twenty from 46, in addition to the job cuts. The company currently has 340,000 people in its employ.

Economic analysts are paying considerable attention to the financial status of UPS, as many see a large connection between the overall state of the US economy and the amount of parcels shipped.

“They’re not cutting sales jobs, they’re cutting back office jobs. They take out back office, they take out cost,” commented Helane Becker, an analyst for Jesup & Lamont Securities.

US Nationwide Pollution Permit Restrictions Upheld
December 12, 2018

Wednesday, October 4, 2006

The US Army Corps of Engineers decision to place restrictions on issuance of nationwide pollution permits has been upheld by a federal court. In National Association of Home Builders v. Army Corps of Engineers, the District Court for the District of Columbia found that the Corps of Engineers had not acted in an “arbitrary” or “capricious” manner in changing the terms and conditions for issuance of a national pollution permit, including reducing the size of area into which pollutants may be discharged from 10 acres to 1 acre, raising the threshold for requiring additional permits from 1 acre to 1/10 acre,

A nationwide permit allows an organization to engage in certain industrial activities on a national basis (such as mining and construction), reducing the amount of paperwork and filings needed for otherwise minor environmental impacts, as opposed to an ordinary permit for a specific location which will engage in activities which generate water pollution.

Due to concerns over the amount of discharge taking place in waterways, the Corps of Engineers began in the 1980s to reduce the authority granted by nationwide permits and to bar use of the permits in certain ecologically sensitive areas.

Some industry groups, including the plaintiff in the above case, The National Association of Home Builders, sued the Corps of Engineers in 2000 over the change in an attempt to block its implementation. Environmental groups, including the Sierra Club, were given permission to intervene in the case in support of the actions of the Corps.

Environmental groups were pleased with the decision, but are concerned over other actions of the Bush Administration, such as the attempts to weaken provisions of the 2002 Clean Water Act to allow additional dumping of construction and mining waste into waterways as fill material.

FEMA employees pose as fake reporters during press conference

FEMA employees pose as fake reporters during press conference
December 10, 2018
Correction — September 10, 2013 The headline should not contain the word fake: the employees posed as reporters; they didn’t pose as fake reporters, on the contrary they were fake reporters posing as real reporters. We aopologize for the error.

Friday, October 26, 2007

The United States Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is under fire after the agency held a fake press conference with fake news reporters in regards to individuals affected by the California wildfires and the assistance they could receive.

The agency called a press conference on Tuesday, giving the press only 15 minutes to show up. When many did not, FEMA brought in agency officials to pose as fake reporters and ask questions. The option for reporters to call into the conference was also available, but the ones who did call in only got to listen to the press conference, and could not ask questions. No reporters were actually present during the conference, parts of which were carried live on Fox News and MSNBC.

During the briefing, FEMA employees asked Deputy Administrator Harvey Johnson a series of what The New York Times called “decidedly friendly questions” such as “What type of commodities are you pledging to California?”, “What lessons learned from Katrina have been applied?” and “Are you happy with FEMA’s response so far?”. The briefing followed the format of a press conference, with FEMA’s press secretary at one point cautioning that he would allow just “two more questions”, then calling later for a “last question”. Officials who posed as fake reporters included the deputy director of public affairs Cindy Taylor and Director of External Affairs John “Pat” Philbin.

White House officials said that they do not condone FEMA’s actions and also state that they had no idea that the conference was taking place.

“FEMA has issued an apology, saying that they had an error in judgment when they were attempting to get out a lot of information to reporters, who were asking for answers to a variety of questions in regard to the wildfires in California. It’s not something I would have condoned. And they — I’m sure — will not do it again,” said Dana Perino, the White House’s press secretary in a statement.

FEMA apologizes for the mishap and says that their intentions were only to get the information to the citizens of California.

“[The purpose was] to get information out as soon as possible, and in trying to do so we made an error in judgment. Our intent was to provide useful information and be responsive to the many questions we have received. We can and must do better,” said Harvey E. Johnson, the agency’s vice administrator. “The real story — how well the response and recovery elements are working in this disaster — should not be lost because of how we tried to meet the needs of the media in distributing facts,” a FEMA statement said.

FEMA is currently deciding whether or not any officials should face punishment for the incident. One of the officials responsible, Pat Philbin, is going on to be the new head of public relations for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

This is not the first time that the Bush administration has come under fire for planting reporters at press conferences. In February of 2005, White House reporter Jeff Gannon was accused of being planted to ask softball questions to President Bush. FEMA itself had earlier undergone criticism during Hurricane Katrina for using disaster workers for public relations in 2005.

Dementia Care Facilities Make Life Easier For Families Of Patients

December 9, 2018

byAlma Abell

Those who have family members suffering from dementia know just how much work is involved in their care. Most of the time, dementia patients need to have round-the-clock care, and this can often become too much for their family members to handle. It isn’t that they don’t want to look after their loved ones. It is simply that they don’t have the resources and training that is necessary for caring for patients with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Children of parents with these issues often feel guilty if they don’t take on the role of caregiver themselves, but they can end up feeling overwhelmed, and unable to provide the level of care that their loved ones need.

When caregivers become exhausted and overwhelmed, it is time to look into dementia care facilities. Generally, the patients are able to stay in their homes with their families during the early stages of their illnesses. As their illnesses progress, their loved ones who are acting as caregivers may have no other choice but to seek help, and long-term care is an excellent option. In a nursing home, patients can receive nursing care, and if they need constant supervision, the professional caregivers are there for them.

It is never easy to choose to move a loved one into a special care home, but often it is the best decision for everyone involved, especially the patient. Depending on the state of the patient’s mental health, they may or may not know what is happening. If they are aware, it must be explained to them why they are being moved, and that their caregivers can’t maintain the proper level of care, and want to make sure that their loved ones receive the best care possible.

Dementia care at Fountain View Active Retirement Community encompasses many different areas of care, depending on the needs of the individual patients. Nurses are on staff 24 hours a day, and caregivers ensure that patients receive proper nutrition, health care, exercise, and mental stimulation. Patients socialize with others, and take part in activities that will help delay the progression of their disease.

US unemployment rate reaches 9.4 percent

US unemployment rate reaches 9.4 percent
December 9, 2018

Friday, June 5, 2009

Data from the United States Labor Department says that the unemployment rate in the U.S. has reached its highest level in over 25 years, namely 9.4%.

The job loss rate, however, was only 345,000, which is the lowest monthly job loss rate since September of last year. Analysts had predicted that the loss could be as high as 525,000.

The news suggests that the US economy may be improving, as the job loss rate, which peaked at 741,000 jobs this January, has started to ease.

“Even as we see things start to stabilize and hopefully grow again, we do know that unemployment tends to lag, and so that the unemployment rate is going to be high and probably stay high for a while, precisely because that is sort of the normal pattern as we come out of recession,” said an economic adviser for the White House, Christina Romer.

Since the recession officially started in December 2007, the economy has shed over six million jobs, with 14.5 million residents now unemployed.
